About Vintage 1889

Tucked inside Big Mill Antiques at 151 8th Street NE in Fort Payne, Alabama, Vintage 1889 offers one of the most distinctive dining experiences in DeKalb County. The restaurant is surrounded by an incredible collection of antiques — including a full fire engine — creating an atmosphere that guests describe as charming, unique, and memorable.

The menu is extensive and thoughtfully crafted: gourmet burgers on pretzel buns, creative named sandwiches, house flatbread pizzas, fresh seafood including shrimp & grits and coconut shrimp, soups, salads, and hearty dinner entrées. Local favorites are clearly marked throughout the menu — from the Bonanza Burger (the Locklear family's famous recipe) to the Flatbread Tomato Pie, Gran's Chicken Salad, and the Grown Up Grilled Cheese.

The kitchen takes vegetarian dining seriously — a dedicated vegetarian section is available, with options across starters, salads, burgers, and sandwiches. The bar program is equally strong, with great cocktails and specialty drinks. Outdoor seating is available, and guests have enjoyed sitting outside listening to live music.

Plenty of free parking, a full kid's menu, and an attached antique mall make Vintage 1889 a destination rather than just a meal stop. Whether you're there for a quick lunch salad, a gourmet Brunch Burger, shrimp & grits, or cocktails on the patio — there's something here for everyone.

The steak salad was wonderful. I'm not big on peppercorns so I asked them to leave those off and add blue cheese crumbles and dressing — I highly recommend it! My husband enjoyed his chicken salad as well. It was great sitting outside and listening to the music!
