About Mitchell's Smoked Meats
Tucked along South Wilson Dam Road in Muscle Shoals, Mitchell's Smoked Meats has earned a passionate following in the Shoals area — and for good reason. This is real, no-frills, smoke-forward barbecue where the meat does all the talking. Brisket, pulled pork, ribs, smoked chicken, bologna, turkey, ham, and slaw dogs — all prepared with the kind of care that only comes from genuine pit mastery.
The menu spans everything a BBQ lover could want: hearty plates with your choice of meat and sides, sandwiches stuffed with smoked goodness, loaded baked potatoes, and the option to take whole cuts home by the pound. The pork ribeye sandwich in particular has become legendary among regulars — guests call it one of the best individual pieces of smoked meat they've ever eaten. The pulled pork, brisket, and whole smoked wings are equally celebrated.
Planning ahead? Mitchell's offers advance orders for whole smoked hams, turkey breasts, whole turkeys, and large wing quantities — perfect for gatherings and events. Family packs offer 1.5 lbs of meat, buns, chips, slaw, and sauce starting at $27.50. House-made sauces come in regular, spicy, and bourbon varieties, along with their famous Alabama white sauce.
The atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious — quiet, easy to have a conversation, with indoor dining available. The ownership is hands-on, personable, and genuinely passionate about their craft. It's the kind of place where a self-described BBQ snob walks in a skeptic and leaves a convert.

Best BBQ I have ever had. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich plain — no sauce, no slaw, no mayo. Needed none of that. The meat stood alone and had a great flavor. Great customer service. The man I'm assuming was the owner was very nice and extremely friendly. Good customer service is a rarity these days. I don't live in the Shoals area and this was my first time to stop in — it won't be my last. Glad I drove on past that other BBQ place just down the street!
I'll admit it — I'm a barbecue snob. I've competed in multiple large BBQ cookoffs over several years and placed highly. I've cooked for years for family and friends to rave reviews. The problem is I struggle to find commercial barbecue that satisfies me. But guess what? This place, this food, these people... it's the bomb! The reason they only got 5 stars is because that's all I had to choose from. Don't get it twisted — this is that. What you want, they have.
There's a fancy barbecue place just down the street if you want fancy, but if you want friendly and fantastic smoked meat, Mitchell's is it! Everything is pretty much as you might expect except for the recommended pork ribeye sandwich — one of the best pieces of barbecue smoked meat I have ever eaten in my life. And you might say I've eaten a little bit. Highly recommend.
